Charity is a way of being.

Most people think that charity means giving hand-outs. It is almost a swearword considering how some people loathe being handed something because the giver must see them as poor.

In the Bible, in Corinthians I, in the first verse of the 14th chapter the reader is told to "follow after charity, desire spiritual gifts...". What is so special about charity?

Chapter 13 of Corinthians I tells us that no matter how many good deeds we do, however many gifts and talents we have, or however spiritually endowed we deem ourselves, without charity it means nothing. If everything was stripped away from us, the only qualities left to us are "faith, hope, and charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." vs 13.

It seems that charity is really your "backbone". It can be weak or strong. That depends on how you let Jesus Christ in you train it. Corinthians I describes charity as being: patient, kind, not a show-off, not arrogant, decent, unselfish, not easily provoked, not thinking evil thoughts, sad about the bad things people do, happy when people are truthful, accepting of all circumstances, trusting without unreasonable scepticism, full of hope, and enduring of everything needed to accomplish.

The bible messages are particularly concerned with the accomplishment of God's will, Mathew 6:03, but how is a person to "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness"? Is one supposed to keep studying the scriptures and starve?

Actually God has made man a social animal. The "family" was not instituted only for procreation, but to teach mankind to live in relationships. Without relationships charity would not need to exist. Look at the qualities of charity again. These characteristics only apply in company of another human being. They are not easy to maintain or even develop unless you walk with God and let Him develop these qualities in you. They apply in every type of relationship be it personal or business. Maybe another time I will show you how charity applies in business and how you can succeed much more with charity than using the way of competition, deception, greed, devious tactics, and cunning words.

Find a bible online and read Corinthians I chapters 13 and 14 yourself or here is access to the New World Translation.

Hey Ann,

I like to give to charity and I do, but charity doesn’t always have to be money for instance I have a email list of internet marketers at various levels of success, the greatest thing to do for them is to give them something that they can use and grow a successful business from, so what I’m saying is a giving of knowledge to those who desire it for greater happiness in life.

Great blog Annette, very good messages here!

To your success,

Thank you Jeff!

I was not thinking only of money, just giving, could be clothing, food, yes, and time helping someone. Thank you for your comment. This is the first time something is working for me and I am thrilled. The best to you too.

I added a reciprocal directory to the blog. You can access it from the blog home page. Be my guest if you have a site. If you can’t reciprocate I’m not going to cry….lol

Take care,

Ann Ommen
