Good health or death via your gut.Over the years so much has changed. When I was a kid the vegetables and fruits we ate came from our own organic garden. We had chickens for eggs and meat running outside without chemical growth aids in the feed. Beef was not medicated or given hormones or castrated to encourage fattening. When we were visiting our grandparents in the city the food there came from the green grocer, also relatively fresh from local farms. Flour came fresh from the mill which usually had a baker nearby who baked fresh bread and buns. A milkman delivered fresh milk from the dairy collected from local farms. And if you were lucky and had your own cows, milk, cream, butter, buttermilk, and some homemade cheeses were the norm, without chemicals or pasteurization. Did you know a plant dies as soon as it is cut? When I think of all the lettuces that lie wilting in the store after travelling, I do not know how many days, from farm to warehouse to store... Frankly, most people today have no clue what fresh, healthy, and truly wholesome food tastes like. How can all that dead, chemically preserved, adulterated, artificially enhanced, processed food be good for the body... even if you don't immediately keel over dead. That reminds me of the story of Adam and Eve and the conversation they had with Satan who told them that they would not die if they ate from the forbidden tree. He said that instead their eyes would be opened and they would be able to reason like God. Well, I guess that is what we are doing. But has this truly advanced our understanding? Our bodies are marvelous biological machines that can overcome tremendous obstacles, but eventually the body rebels through aches, pains, chronic disturbances. We do not even sit together at a complete meal prepared from the produce section of the supermarket, but throw readymade packages into the prescribed liquid or a frozen dish full of preservatives into the microvawe. Yuk. Then the TV gets turned on... Even children are constipated and have their intestines lined with gunk. If it wasn't for all the pills for this and that we would die an early death. As it is we are walking dead, whether we believe it or not. I am thankful that at least alternative health care is possible. Good natural products are available to cleanse our digestive system so it allows good nutrition to feed our cells again. I just mourn the inability of most of us to again find really good sources of fresh, wholesome food locally and at reasonable prices. Maybe we need to get back to the soil.
