How to Rebuild Your Immune SystemThe body's immune defense is a very sophisticated system. If one could look through a microscope at just about any part of our bodies, one could see it teeming with microorganisms: bacteria, parasites and fungi. Our air, water and food are also saturated with microorganisms and pollutants. Why are we still alive? We all know that we need to lead a balanced life in excercise, rest, food and drink. But do we? Most of us do not even bother with quality supplements to augment our imperfect diets. And believe it or not, many people do not ever think to boost their immune system. Even the cold is a communicable disease, yet people think one catches it from sitting in a draft or from not drying one's hair after a shower. How much one suffers with it depends on the strength of one's immune response system. The immune response is how our bodies respond to the entry of organisms that do not belong, cause disease, cause us to have allergic reactions, break down body functions, or alter them. This immune response system can be compromised. It is a part of us, its quality determined by our inheritance, built up after birth from the first milk of the mother, and it needs to be maintained like the rest of the body. The immune cells, some which surround an invador (pathogen) and devour it (pus forming) and others, lymphocytes, which adapt to the invading pathogen developing a suitable defense against them, represent the leading players of the immune response. If they diminish in numbers or become weakened and no longer replicate but multipy in a crippled or altered state, chronic disease begins to flourish in the body. Every cell in the body contains immune response material. In order to form perfect replicas of lymphocites, the cells need to contain lots of glutathione (GSH). This substance diminishes as it feeds the lymphatic system unless it is adequately replenished. But GSH has other functions. It is the chief anti-oxidant and detoxifier of the body. In other words, glutathione will neutralize rogue electrons that can harm the cells and that are created simply from being alive and will also eliminate toxins from the body. There are other anti-oxidants one can take as supplements or in a good diet, but they are subject to GSH, the master anti-oxidant, for their proper function. Our life styles do not do much for the regeneration of glutathione. The glutathione levels or the cells drop sharply as we age especially if we smoke, consume alcohol, too much caffeine, Acetaminaphen, drugs, excercise too hard, get too much UV radiation in the sun, or absorb or ingest other foreign substances such as chemicals in air, food and water that do not belong. In direct relationship our health defenses diminish and we age with aches, pains, and chronic disease. We are lucky if we do not succumb to infections when the GSH levels are low. Here you can check out what happens if glutathione levels drop and what treatment is required. GSH levels in the cells cannot be raised by eating glutathione. It needs to be made in the body from precursers, the building material for the production of GSH. The best source is still undenatured (not heated or treated from its original condition) whey protein. Certain minerals and vitamins also aid in its production. A great source of concentrated undenatured whey protein can be secured here. The body's immune defense is a very sophisticated system.
